La Canasta was founded by Richard and Carmen Abril in 1962. The business started in Phoenix, Arizona by supplying the Hispanic community with fresh, handmade flour and corn tortillas. Word of mouth spread the news about La Canasta having the Best Tasting Homemade Tortillas in town!

Eventually Mexican food restaurant owners began coming to pick up tortillas for their businesses. The demand grew so much that we decided to add a delivery service to the restaurant establishments. As the food service industry grew in Arizona, so did La Canasta food service tortilla production.


Today, La Canasta is Kosher Certified, Gluten Free Certified and is an SQF certified facility, Certified Minority & Woman owned by the second-generation family members.


We have over 130 employees operating our production facility producing over 2.5 million tortillas daily for local and national accounts.

Heat Pressed Flour Tortillas

La Canasta Pressed Tortillas are Thicker to withstand heavy fillings and have a higher moisture content that creates a fluffy and durable tortilla. They are seared on the exterior surface during the cooking process, which captures and seals the moisture inside the tortilla.

Whole Kernel Corn Tortillas

La Canasta Corn Tortillas are still made from meaty whole kernel corn, cooked from scratch, and steeped for several hours to absorb the rich corn flavor. We grind the kernels using the old-fashioned stones that are hand carved for the perfect grind and consistency required to make authentic corn tortillas.

Corn Flour Tortillas

La Canasta Corn Flour Tortillas are made from corn flour. They have a mild corn flavor and are multi-purpose and very versatile. We make them in a variety of thicknesses to accommodate your specific uses.

La Canasta is proud to offer a line of unique Specialty Products. La Canasta has developed several different types and flavors of flour tortillas to accommodate the needs of our customers. Corn Tortilla Chips Uncooked

Most uncooked raw tortilla chips come in two types of cuts, 4-cut and 6-cut. La Canasta recommends 4-cut tortilla chips because it offers four distinct benefits compared to 6-cut tortilla chips; volume and presence in the chip basket and less chips per serving, less breakage, made low in moisture, creating lower oil absorption and authentic whole kernel corn flavor. These benefits lead to cost savings, satisfied customers and repeat sales.

Fried Tortilla Chips & Strips

Our Tortilla Chips are made from meaty whole kernel white corn that is stone ground and made into the Best Tasting corn tortillas, then fried to perfection.
